B3 Break: The Power Of Thank You

For our B3 Break, we're going to talk about the power of thank you. We don't often talk about this enough of how important it is to appreciate the work that the people around you are doing, whether you are the leader or a coworker that you are looking up from your own work and acknowledging the work of others as well. We get so consumed in trying to get our work done.

Thank You: If it doesn't come naturally to you to look up and see what others are doing, remind yourself through your calendar. Maybe once a week, thank someone for the work that they are doing.

Many times, it can feel like nobody is noticing the things that we are doing, expect that people are noticing, instead of speaking up and saying, “I got this accomplished or that accomplished,” or running a meeting so that you're talking about the things that were accomplished during that week and acknowledging the work that we do.

When we were children, we got acknowledgment all the time, whether it was a sticker on our paper or a teacher telling you, “Good job.” We still strive for that as we get older. It's just not as obvious. If it doesn't come naturally to you to look up and see what others are doing, give yourself a reminder on your calendar maybe once a week to thank someone or acknowledge them for the work that they are doing. Maybe it's an email, a note or in a meeting, you're speaking up and letting everybody know the big accomplishments that have been made by different people on the team.

Thank You: When you're on big projects and trying to do a massive change, you just have to celebrate along the way to keep the energy going.

It doesn't always have to be big. They can be small. When we're on big projects and trying to do massive change, many times we just have to celebrate along the way to keep the energy going. Don't forget to look up, turn around, see what others are doing, check in with them and just say, “Thank you.” It will go a long way.
