Finding Your Personal Purpose

Have you ever thought about your purpose in life?

Often, we are defined by our accomplishments instead of the value we want to turn out in this world. Things can feel out of control when we haven’t defined our personal purpose, and our self-confidence can take a hit.

Your personal purpose aligns your life decisions with the value you want to create in the world—this doesn’t have to be related to your job or your title. This value is what you want to experience in life and what you want others to experience as well.

Before defining your personal purpose, brainstorm the value you want to create for yourself and the people around you. Add that to who you are creating value for and why. You can then align your goals and all the other decisions you want to make to your values.

I’ve lived through the recession in the construction industry and experienced it hit rock bottom. That affected my family and their businesses.

When that happened, I knew I had to define and craft my personal purpose statement. I knew that I wanted to create value for other business owners and people to never experience that kind of loss again.

The value I create is ensuring anything that I help people thrive and support the people around them to succeed. Knowing this, I have pivoted several times on what that means with what I do in my career and life. As long as that’s aligned with my personal purpose statement, I know that I’m living the kind of value I want to create in the world.

Identifying, acknowledging, and honoring your purpose is the foundation of a well-rounded life. It requires some courage and honesty with yourself. But I promise it’s worth it.
