Meditation at Work: A Personal Journey to Better Health and Happiness

We all know work can be stressful. Deadlines, meetings, and the daily grind can take a toll on our mental and physical health. But did you know that the way we view stress can have a considerable impact on our well-being? Recent studies have shown that those who view stress negatively have a higher mortality rate than those who don't.

Meditation at Work: A Personal Journey to Better Health and Happiness

So, what can we do to combat stress and improve our health and happiness? Enter meditation.

Meditation has been a part of my life for a few years now, and I can say without hesitation that it's changed my life for the better. It's helped me relax, focus, and connect with those around me. It's also given me a new perspective on stress and its impact on my life. 

Starting a meditation practice can be intimidating, but it's about taking baby steps and finding what works best. These small changes can help you approach your meditation practice with a clear mind.

Here's a simple five-minute meditation you can do every morning:

  1. Find a quiet spot, whether at your desk, in your car, or outdoors.

  2. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

  3. Set your intention for the day by thinking about what you want to accomplish and how you'd like to handle any challenges that come your way.

  4. Focus on your breath, inhaling through your nose and exhaling slowly. Repeat this for several breaths and let go of any thoughts about work or other worries.

  5. Repeat the mantra, "I am mindful in this present moment," If your mind wanders, bring it back to your breath and recommit to mindfulness.

  6. When ready, bring your focus back to your body, one finger or limb at a time.

  7. Take a few deep breaths and open your eyes.

Make this meditation a staple to your morning routine, but if you need extra calm during the day, you can also do it during lunch or at the end of your workday.

Meditation can help you reframe the way you think about stress at work. Instead of viewing it as an opposing force, you can start seeing it as an opportunity to practice mindfulness and improve your health and happiness. Remember, starting a meditation practice is about finding what works best for you. Be patient with yourself and celebrate the small steps you take towards a more mindful and healthier you.
